My talk isn't quite long enough and I need some more things to put into it!

Saw this @404mediaco piece about the US FCC wanting to introduce KYC for mobile phones, and as an Aussie the wild part to me has been the volume of stories about SIM farms, volumes of robocalls etc that I read about from other countries.
Also 😆 to the following, I'll keep KYC along with compulsory voting thx:
"alarming privacy advocates and civil rights activists who compare the measures to those from authoritarian countries where it can be difficult to buy a mobile phone plan without giving up your identity”

The FCC wants to legally force telecoms to collect new and renewing customers’ government issued identity number and physical address, impacting everyone from the privacy-conscious to domestic abuse survivors. “We never thought that would happen here.”
Ah yes, the “everyone else is doing it" defense, put forward by school children everywhere.
“"CCTV cameras are everywhere. They are owned by private businesses, local councils, they are around the world ... and who are they owned by, no-one would know," he said.”
(although granted, it actually sounds like this trial might be trying to at least make an effort to preserve privacy of people not already being looked for?)
Sums up lots of my life:
1. Open new browser tab group for focused task.
2. Pin email tab so it can be accessed everywhere.
3. Open a link from email in focused tab group accidentally.
4. Rabbit hole five more links from newly opened tab into new tabs.
5. Don't read new tabs but leave them open because they're interesting.
6. Rinse and repeat over a few days.
7. Abandon tab group and start over.
And this is how I constantly live with 100+ open tabs, most of which aren't visible at any one time.

I've been noodling away on some more AI assisted stuff lately which I think is turning out to be pretty neat.
It modifies and combines the simulators for the #microbit for both #Micropython and #Makecode, letting you run different programs in the same simulation, interacting with each other, being influenced by environmental nodes like lights, sound, and temperature, and communicating via radio.
If you're an educator and think it sounds useful, check it out, and let me know if it is.

Host: "We have a particularly special guest with us tonight. The ghost of J.R.R. Tolkien will be making a few comments."
J.R.R. Tolkien's Ghost taps the mic: "Is this on? Yes, well, sorry, I just thought I should come back. You see, I made a slight mistake. It's meant to be pronounced Jandalf."
