I live in the UK. Really like languages, lots of different types of music, reading and tech.
So, for those completely new to the Ally Solos glasses who might have got a bit stuck. Here are a couple of tips. In short, make sure the stems are properly connected, and there is no sound when charging with the magnetic cable.

Tips for beginners setting up the Ally Solos smart glasses | AppleVis

Hi all, So for those totally new to the Ally Solos glasses, I've now got them working, so here's some observations.

I just tried out the page explore thing in JAWS 2026. I actually quite like it. It was only a basic help page from the JAWS What's New page, but the summary was accurate. I like the fact you can ask questions and the navigation tips it gives you in particular.
I've recently downloaded Local for WordPress, an accessible program for building WordPress sites on your computer. I really like it. I've been using it with NVDA. Just hit the 'download for free' button and find the 'download Local' heading at level 2, and choose your operating system.

@doubletap Hi Guys, there are a lot of accessible ways to learn French and other languages. The Coffee Break French podcast, Babbel through your browser on Windows or maybe the Mac, Rocket Languages both on Windows and the iPhone, pod101 and class101 from Innovative Language, and specifically for French, French with Alexa. All of these courses have lesson notes which are pretty accessible. Let me know if you want more info. And there are more resources I could provide too if you're interested.
I recently used FFmpeg to convert a load of .wma files into .mp3. I don't know if there's an accessible GUI to do this, but even if you hate command-line stuff like I do, and don't want to wade through help files, you can just ask ChatGPT to give you the exact commands you need to type in to CMD Prompt to get it done. I've used ChatGPT to help me with command-line stuff before and it's never failed me.

@doubletap Hi guys, the Brave browser blocks all ads. It’s available for Windows, Mac,, iOS, and I imagine Android too. This is far easier than Pi-hole which is gonna be way too technical for a lot of people, and much more safer than these browser add-on things for blocking ads. https://brave.com/ please mention this browser to your listeners.

Recently, the meta rayban glasses have kind of been hitting me from all directions, and not gonna lie, I'm starting to consider buying them, since I rely a lot on identifying colours on displays of household appliances, reading documents on paper, recognizing frequencies/channel numbers on radios and so on. Could anyone who owns them please enlighten me if they work for the things I described? And mainly if the AI functions are supported outside of the US (since I'm from Czechia)? I remember reading about this limitation a few months ago, but maybe I'm imagining things. I'd be very glad for any answers, and if you could boost this post, that would really help me out a bunch. Thanks!
Early this morning, I pre-ordered the Ally Solos smart glasses for £396 including shipping. These can: read entire documents (no summaries), identify objects around you, will be able to OCR text including signs, will be able to have video conversations with the AI about your surroundings (but won't be able to scan continuously yet), can speak over 100 languages, and will support Gemini AI too. The Double Tap and Access On podcasts have more info.
Here's the Ally page.

I purchased one a few days ago, and my two upgrades came through yesterday. https://www.sightandsound.co.uk/product/jaws-pro-sma/
For any JAWS users in the UK, a software maintenance agreement (SMA) for two upgrades is still available to purchase from the Sight and Sounnd website. There was a recent email sent out which didn't mention anything about the SMA still being available through their site. It implied you had to call them up which isn't the case. It only gave links to the subscription options, and not the SMA. The standard SMA is only available until 31st October, and then it'll be a timed SMA.
