Massive fire incinerates Rio de Janeiro's 200-year old National Museum
There were reports from Rio in the Brazilian press earlier this year abiut the shockingly poor conditions and maintenance of the Museu Nacional. The state had been cutting funding to education and the arts for years in order to recoup the billions spent on the Olympics. This is the expenditure on the museum for the years 2013 to April 2018 - in thousands, not millions.

Nicola Sacco & Bartolomeo Vanzetti, anarchist workers and Italian immigrants, were executed for the alleged killing of a bank guard during an armed robbery. The presiding judge admitted they did not perform the murder or the robbery, but were "nevertheless morally culpable" for being "enemies of our existing institutions." Hundreds of thousands around the world protested their execution.

Today is the third anniversary of Eric Garner's execution by NYPD pig Daniel Pantaleo, whose acquittal triggered days of protests which effectively halted traffic in and out of Manhattan. Rest in Power Eric; we will not forget.
