I’m just a political scientist living in an idyllic Midwestern town…watching the apocalypse happen
@acdha Yeah, it’s hard to convince people that the dopamine hits they get from seeing likes on their posts are totally meaningless.
A nice pice on why billionaires sound like fucking idiots (and also why they love AI): https://www.theverge.com/tldr/897566/marc-andreessen-is-a-philosophical-zombie
Marc Andreessen is a philosophical zombie

Andreessen caused a minor kerfuffle by saying on a podcast that he doesn’t introspect at all, and that in fact, people shouldn’t. What’s really going on?

The Verge
@acdha Social media isn’t real life. It’s not the town square. I don’t know how many times we need to learn this.

Sigh, let me put in my political scientist hat for a minute.

This is stupid. This is a very stupid strategy. The only people who will ever see this shit are Very Online fools who are already in the tank. No one else will see or care about this shit. This kind of online engagement has nothing to do with mass public opinion.

Inside the White House plan to sell the Iran war online

The administration is bucking decades of decorum by depicting the Iran war as a violent video game.

Politico

“A second senior White House official who is also closely involved in the video-making effort described it as a collegial, creative endeavor. ‘We’re over here just grinding away on banger memes, dude’”

@acdha I’ll go ahead and predict that the war will continue to be unpopular despite the awesomeness of these banger memes. This is the kind of stupid shit that happens when you’re ruled by the Very Online.
@aaron.rupar do we think Hegseth’s son will get the therapy he will need or does he end up a stunted, abusive manboy like his father?
You know a line has been crossed when this stuff is running in USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/columnist/2026/03/18/trump-iran-cognitive-decline/89197688007/
President Trump isn't making sense | Opinion

President Donald Trump, the guy who catapulted us into a war of choice with Iran, isn't doing well in the think-y/speak-y cognitive department.

USA TODAY

I would still be surprised if the Mullins nomination fails…

But, wait, wtf is up with the undisclosed trips to Azerbaijan? Does any news outlet want to follow up on why a senator who never served in the military or any intelligence agency had a history of “classified” trips to foreign countries?

Seems odd.

The things about being an AI “skeptic” is that…well…shouldn’t everyone be a skeptic? The entire AI pitch is “here’s a magic black box that will solve all your problems and don’t worry if it loses money and wastes resources today because any second now it will make you immortal.”

Yeah, that sounds like something you *should* be skeptical about.
