"Code one thing every day that amuses you."

"Enjoy your <body>. Style it every way you can. Don’t be afraid of CSS, or what other people think of it. It’s the greatest design tool you’ll ever learn."

"Ask for help and people will support you."

Everybody's Free (To Write Websites)

My rewrite of Baz Luhrmann's hit, for the revival and indie web.

Today I learned that “sport” chocolate is a thing.

I am really pleased to announce that I will be joining the Applied Social Media Lab at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center! They exist "to reimagine, rebuild, and reboot social media to serve the public good" and I hope to use my time there to keep on building cool stuff that makes the internet a little nicer and better.

I've been playing around with Soft, a novel new camera app (beta), developed by Jake Dow-Smith.

"Soft — a camera app that captures the rhythm of your environment using the analog sensors in your phone. Colours, saturation, grain, and more are all determined by the conditions in your physical environment."

Not a day goes by when I work on my website that I don't wish for a simpler setup. No SSG. No npm. No tooling. Just simple HTML with partials imports, vanilla CSS, and whatever vanilla JS is necessary for enhancements.

I just want the HTML partials imports. Why don't we have them already?!

I started this book back in late 2022, which I only remember because it was one of the final status updates I posted on the website formerly known as Twitter. The book details Mandela's early life, education, his involvement with…

Looking at railroad ephemera and watching the Durango & Silverton trains this past weekend reminded me to take another look at Reagan Ray’s stunning railway logos collection on his personal site. https://reaganray.com/2018/02/20/railway-logos

Overheard on the radio:

I recently finished reading Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age, by Annalee Newitz. (ISBN: 9780393652666)

By “recently,” I mean I finished this weeks ago, and have been struggling a bit to write a review. Overall, I liked the book. Newitz traveled to the ancient cities of Çatalhöyük, Pompeii, Angkor, and Cahokia, and interviewed archaeologists and experts at each site. The book is a bit like a travelogue back in time, and I enjoyed ... https://nicksimson.com/notes/0471356d15/
