Finally finished my Minecraft bridge!! It's 3094 blocks long (3km, longer than the world's longest suspension bridge!!), easily the biggest single structure I've ever built, though a lot of it was built using the /fill and /clone commands to make it faster.

So AI took someone's job, and it was a CEO's.

So I just realised that the "tech princess" link on my website was broken, after I made my instagram disappear.

Anyway, here's the back story: I was going to React Day Berlin in November 2019, and I was so bored of going to tech conferences in jeans and a t-shirt, and wanted to be *hyper* femme, so I bought a huge ballgown and wore that to the conference. I also tried to encourage some other femmes to join me, but didn't have much luck.

It was literally to poke fun at the fact that tech conferences are all jeans and t-shirts or like suits. I wanted to do something different.

So yeah, it's not some feudal or like royalty thing, nah, it's literally poking fun at how normative and boring the tech industry can be at times.

oh, and I should note: the ballgown was a little long on me, so for shoes I was wearing like 2" platform pleaser boots, so I was like 2m / 6ft tall. Those things are so comfy and such a boss to walk in.

I did also have a gothic tiara for comedic effect at the after-party, but it was a bit much.

@AnhedoniaIsReal I can't recall now, the skirt was made by devil inspired, iirc, who are really a front for many gothic brands in china iirc, but it was tailored specifically for me

@thisismissem This reminds me of one time in the 90's when I went to a 'ball' of our local LGBTQ organisation in a strapless dress with petticoat skirt just above the knee.
Let's say that with all the fabulously looking ball gown wearers I didn't stand any chance. Only one other woman in a dress

One of the other active people there clearly didn't recognise me, so asked me if I was a guy or a gal... I had to tell him, "Peter! It's me!".....

@thisismissem I always had to give my conference t-shirts away. They never fit me....and they were almost always really ugly, so I wouldn't have worn them even if they fit. Ha!

@renedario I mean, they did actually have some professional cosplayers at the con.

@renedario actually no, mostly just people thought I was non-technical, even though I was talking compilers with some folks or chatting about graphql.

I LOVED it. :-) And EVERYONE should feel free to be themselves at events like that. :-D I think Tech Conferences should evolved passed the stuffy, serious, business type things. :-) MORE Tech Princes and Princesses pls!

If I ever were to join another tech conference I would absolutely do this and it would be sooo much more fun than normally 🩷😁🤭!!!

@svedigtype @tofticles the only problem I had was using the bathroom was a little problematic because the stalls were tiny & the hoop skirt pretty rigid. (Plus the corset was a bit too snug)

I bought a beautiful strapless dress a few months ago, after "just trying it on" 'cause I'd never tried on a strapless dress before. Don't have anything to wear it to. So I wore it to work one day. Should do so again.

@static yesss!! Like, these days I almost never dress up, it's a rarity for me to even wear a skirt (though my girlfriend might be encouraging that more), as I just don't have the energy or reason to.

Transition has meant that I have arranged my base level of dress to be reasonably co-ordinated and not a little dressy. So I stand out.

It's been over a year since I wore trousers and they were ladies' dress trousers. I haven't worn jeans in over 3 years.

Wore floral dresses at #fedicon2025 (regret there’s no pic of it for day 1 when i wore my long blackdress). Been so hot in Vancouver, wore a blue mini dress for day 2. 🌸
