Mastodon still has no ads (and likely never will), no algorithms (except those created by open source developers you can choose to make use of), no venture capitalists waiting in the wings to start the enshittification process.
Yes, there are people who can be annoying and people who can be hateful, but they are a distinct minority and most of the time easy to avoid.

"I never expected to find my news from strangers on a federated social network that half the internet has never heard of. I never expected a lot of things. But there's something quietly beautiful about a place where people just... share what they know. No brand deals, no engagement metrics, no algorithm nudging you toward rage. [...] It's the internet I was promised in 1996. It only took thirty years and the complete collapse of American journalism to get here."

"Bert Hubert posted a blog on his website criticizing the research. According to him, the report underestimates the risk governments face by using Amszon’s new cloud service. "
@bert_hubert holding the door :)
The metaphor of the Estuary, the post titled ’Skin in the Game’, uses Melville’s Moby Dick as the epigram. “The Wayshaper’s goal is not to provide the organisation with a better story but to increase the organisation’s own capacity for narrative sense-making”
G'day,
I'm Kev. I'm over 60, retired ex military and I take photos. I'm a long time Linux user.
I got kicked off of Meta products because I refuse to upload a video selfie to prove I'm over 16 years old. 🤔
Tried Bluesky, but's it full of people trying to build their follower count. I prefer the Fediverse.
I swear occasionally, post Australian landscape photos and probably some garbage. (You have been warned)
It's nice to be here.

Wassup international friends. If you interact with Danes on Mastodon you'll see a lot of posts with the hashtag #DanmarkSkifter It means "Denmark Switches". It's people encouraging each others to switch away from US-tech.
So, I don't know about your local initiatives in this regard, but know that you are not alone. Danes are trying to switch, too.
❓Have you noticed that digital products and services are getting worse? So have we!
➡️We have published a report about enshittification, on how and why digital products and services keep getting worse - and how we can turn the trend (hint: open tech, enforcement, public policy++)
Obviously @pluralistic is a big inspiration and help in this work.
More than 80 groups in Europe and the US has joined in a call to action.
