I'm tired of fascism rising in so many countries. I blame directly internet and social media. Society has become dangerously ignorant and oblivious.

I don't have access to this paper but it seems a great idea.

Using old wind turbine blades as roofing material.

As yet another reason. Our daughter copies us and learns from us. Every moment spent with her is invaluable, and she is getting a much better education with us spending time with her. Multiply that by the number of families with kids and you will see that the benefit on society as a whole is immense.
Also, I only go out and consume on weekends. With a 4 day week I would dine out more often, I would travel more, and I would spend more. I am sure this is the same for most middle class people. It would help the economy. And the 4 actual days of work people would be more well rested and do better quality work.
I get most of my ideas when I have free time. I don't get good ideas while at work, as I have to do mind-numbing paperwork a lot.
Let's take academia. I like doing science, yet most of my work is doing paperwork, writing emails, trying to get quotations, trying to figure out how to fix things that get broken or need replacement in the lab.
That's besides teaching, which I like but it's another completely different thing.

4 day work weeks should be the norm. If one person's job requires more than 30ish hours a week then more people should be hired. Two people each working 30 hrs a week would be more productive and do better work than someone working 50-60 hours a week, completely burnt out.

Over at the ex-bird, people were always loud about their accomplishments, aka new papers, grants, promotions etc..

I miss this content here in mastodon.
I miss what feels like a valuable source of exciting news/data. But mainly, I miss the opportunity to join in the joy.., to massively celebrate milestones & to acknowledge their deserving nature.

I wonder if this is a feature of the less "showy"/more raw character of the fediverse. Or it's just coincidence in the #neuromatch instance TL.

Either way, would REALLY love to hear what people are proud of lately, and cheer along with them. If you do happen to wanna toot your own horn, I'm listening.

4 political choices that if implemented tomorrow would see an immediate impact on runaway #ClimateChange:

1. Moratorium on new oil and gas licences globally
2. Ban private jets
3. Make deforestation illegal across the board
4. Increase aid programs to global south countries most affected

Changes in consumption:

1. Going as vegan as possible
2. Flying less
3. Insulating homes and fitting renewable energy sources

will take more time, but campaigns to encourage them can be started now too.

I got to 1600 subscribers today in #youtube . Quite happy about it!
