Some more updates to the Pedestrian Working Group Visualizer:

- Curb icons now utilized the new “Pinhead" style by @waysidemapping (https://pinhead.ink/)
- Improved readability with less transparency and a dark map by default.
- Icons now disappear at low zooms, allowing for higher-level QA without the visual clutter.

- Added a visual identifier for crossings that lack any tier level (previously bronze was displayed.)

What do I want you to know, watching from far away?

I want you to know that if you are not hearing about ICE swarming all the hell over my city, you are not hearing the actual news.

I want you to know that if all you see is video of ICE marching off Very Dangerous Criminals in an orderly and authoritative way, you are not hearing the actual news.

I want you to know that these turds act tough, but run away • every • time • they think too many people are watching or there might be video.

My department is hiring a digital accessibility specialist! It's a great team that works on websites all over the State of California: https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=498274

This weekend, the UN Cybercrime Treaty opens for signatures, and the stakes for global digital freedom have never been higher. States must refuse to sign the Convention. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/10/joint-statement-un-cybercrime-convention-eff-and-global-partners-urge-governments
Joint Statement on the UN Cybercrime Convention: EFF and Global Partners Urge Governments Not to Sign

EFF and a coalition of civil society organizations have urged UN Member States not to sign the UN Convention Against Cybercrime. For those that move forward despite these warnings, we urge them to take immediate and concrete steps to limit the human rights harms this Convention will unleash. These harms are likely to be severe and will be extremely difficult to prevent in practice.

Lastly, CDT is good about reasonable accommodations and disability - it's an initiative driven from the top and with large-scale support. I learned *today* that people who request a reasonable accommodation, even during the hiring process, can and *have* received exemptions to the hybrid work requirements. You may be able to be remote within California if you qualify for an accommodation.

Additionally, there's the LEAP program for an alternate examination process. https://dor.ca.gov/Home/LEAP

A few notes - I've seen this team do a lot of work driven both at the top and bottom to improve whatever the current state of a project is. I think the team is collaborative, and the other team members are great - I've really enjoyed everyone I've worked with on that team.

You'd also quite literally be able to see my desk from yours. Cubicles across an aisle from each other - that's how closely we work with that team!

OK, this time, a #job that is related to my work! The California Department of Technology is hiring a DevSecOps team member - I worked closely and regularly with the last person in this role to deploy secure Azure-based services:

California Department of Transportation is seeking a Chief Data and AI Officer

Not GIS specific, but lots of data management and policy, and they have a huge GIS program (with great people running it), so there'd be a GIS component.
