We released Mastodon 4.3 today, packed with a lot of awesome features: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/10/mastodon-4.3/

I want to thank @Claire, @Gargron, @dave for their hard work on the code, as well as @samhenrigold for the design. Also a lot of thanks to our regular contributors, including @matt and @thisismissem

Now let's focus on 4.4! We have a lot of exiting things to work on, we will do our best to release it before September 2025 😅

@michaelgemar @jeffjarvis it’s not vigorous but it’s a pov. As is any prejudice. It’s a pov. The reason the West Baptist church can stand outside funerals of gay people shouting hate speech is because it’s protected speech. Substack is different since it’s a private institution but that’s their choice and people can leave to platform if they don’t agree.
@jeffjarvis As stated in some comments, I agree with their stance. I haven't seen everything posted in Substack, but if >50% of people between 18-24 think the Oct 7 attack was justified, I don't think just banning "nazi" speech is the way forward. better ideas and information has to be the way forward
@michaelgemar @jeffjarvis where the line is drawn is clearly a very difficult question. The impact here is on children, so a clear line (in my eyes). Broader political speech, however nauseous, is more of a grey area. Some might say communism is effectively genocidal, so do we ban that also? I dont think so.
@michaelgemar @jeffjarvis pedo is a mental illness. It has to be policed, censored. Nazism is ignorance and anger. It loses its power when it hits up against better, more compelling ideas and beliefs. I agree with substack’s stance.
