In particular: I'm not that happy with either Ardupilot or Betaflight.

Ardupilot is way too heavyweight and bloated, and at the same time does weird things (e.g. autopilot on my counter thinks it is yawing, when there is a compass that should keep it straight).

Betaflight is clean but it only really supports multicopters: So much of what is interesting is in fixed wings and ones that transition from multicopter to fixed-wing.

Plus I want something for students to muck with.
