@ceejbot It was always gatekeepy. One of my first Stack Overflow answers was "hey I think this is a duplicate of another question here (link)".
I was promptly yelled at for not using the actual "mark as duplicate" feature. I had looked for such a feature, but it was invisible to me because my karma was too low.
The same people have built Discourse, popular "forum" software for tech communities where new users can't post a screenshot of the problem they're having.
