@emmalbriant I found it! Click on the little bell icon (on desktop) Then click on that line "doohickey" at the top right corner. That's where you can turn off the sound for notifications.

Re:the birdsite meltdown. If it all completely melts, that is going to be one of the most frustrating elements. I would say that half the stuff I read comes from recommendations of those I followed. A lot of it I would never have seen otherwise.
