Anyone know how to silence the annoying noise mastodon makes in the browser version please? I’ve tried looking through my settings…

@emmalbriant Preferences > Notifications > Events

I believe. 🤞

@emmalbriant a workaround might be to mute the tab itself, in the browser... Usually in the right click menu.

They've definitely managed to pick a unique sound 😅 I haven't got used to it, and end up looking around the room in confusion every time.

@emmalbriant there are filters (in your profile), but those appear to also be working variably with other server performance issues at this time.
@focalranges Thanks! I just just tried that... although it only seems to be possible to filter all notifications, not just the annoying noises. I don't really want to lose notifications, just the noises.

@emmalbriant in the web interface there are filter contexts:
Home and lists, Notifications, Public timelines, Conversations, Profiles

i tried it with everything checked on the word “W*rdle”, as I’d seen someone else complain that his filters weren’t working, and that was one of his words (without the asterisk). after i applied it, i couldn’t find his toot again, so it appears to have worked? 🤣

@emmalbriant

1. Click the "bell" icon for your notifications.
2. Top right of the notifications: click on the settings icon that looks like three slide controls
3. Et voilà: all the settings pertaining to your notifications, where you can toggle on /off sound for favorites, new followers and more.

(Besides the general preferences, the sub-functions have specific preferences that you can always reach w/those same 2 steps: 1.click on the funtion icon to the right, then 2. the slider icon.)

@NaMi THANK YOU!!
@emmalbriant
You're welcome :)
For those who only saw my reply: BlueDot also has a screenshot of step 2&3 in English:

@emmalbriant I found it! Click on the little bell icon (on desktop) Then click on that line "doohickey" at the top right corner. That's where you can turn off the sound for notifications.
Hope that works for you. 😀
@emmalbriant Click the filter button at the top of the Notifications column (the icon that looks like the equalizer/slider bars). The sound options are in there.
