Our Fellow, Maia, will be leaving us on Tuesday to attend graduate school and then head into the big, big world.

Maia started as an intern 2 years ago and returned to us last year as our Fellow. She was responsible for educational presentations and initiated our pilot program, Storytime with NAMI DE, with HUGE success! We will miss her and wish her great joy!

Send her off with some best wishes and sage advice in the comments.

Congratulations to Wesley, our Program Manager, on your 8-year anniversary with NAMI Delaware! Wesley began as an intern with our Program team and stayed on after his first year. He has become the NAMI DE archives of knowledge as well as a great person to work with.

Send him some congrats in the comments!

One of the things that makes NAMI Delaware so special is watching people grow within our community and then turn around and give back in meaningful ways.

Maia first joined us as an intern, and since then, she’s returned as our Fellow and expanded her role to help lead Storytime with NAMI, creating safe and welcoming spaces for children. Also, we will hear from our Housing Director, Shantasia, who can share more about the heart behind the work

Today we’ve had an opportunity to spotlight Jim Trojan, a NAMI Delaware volunteer, for sharing his powerful In Our Own Voice presentation.

Through courage and lived experience, Jim helps break down stigma, build understanding, and remind us that recovery is real. His willingness to share his story creates space for connection, compassion, and hope in every room he enters.

Thank you, Jim, for being a voice that truly makes a difference.

This morning’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training session included Lethal Violence Protection Orders and how to implement them safely and effectively for everyone involved.

Thank you to Traci Murphy (Coalition for a Safer Delaware) and Corporal Jake Shepherd (Dover Police Department) for guiding participants through approaches that prioritize de-escalation, safety, and thoughtful intervention in high-risk situations.

CIT Week Day 2 wrapped with a powerful afternoon session led by Dr. Aileen Fink, Director at the Division of Prevention and Behavioral Health.

Her presentation on Juvenile Mental Health and Trauma offered meaningful insight into the challenges youth face and the importance of trauma-informed care.

Thank you, Dr. Fink, for sharing your expertise and helping strengthen our community response.
