My First Impressions of Nix

Nix is a tool for configuring software environments according to source files. I’ve been hearing more and more about Nix on Hacker News and Twitter. The idea of it appeals to me, so I’ve been tinkering with it over the past few weeks. My history with infrastructure as code Ten years ago, I discovered Salt, a tool that allows you to define a computer system’s configuration in source code. I loved the idea of a git repo that defined what services were installed on my computers and VMs.

@textfiles Who offers a movie subscription?
@noim how do tracking pixels work?
@slashdot what isn’t Opera building into its sidebar

Hello Mastodon! I think it’s about time I introduce myself…

My name is Norman! I’m a #developer, #tech fanatic, avid #music listener, #movie lover, and born again follower of Christ. ✝️

I own four pet ducks 🦆 and two dogs. 🐕

In my free time, I’ve been trying to #read more books, learn about how low-level systems work, and play with my #homelab. I recently finished reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

I’m looking for people to follow on here too! Maybe suggest some for me 🙃
