Graymuzzle, writer, freelancer, not much else to say. He/him, bi/pan, if I say something stupid or harmful please call me out on it.

sometimes someone can make a big fuckup and it doesn't mean they're not a really good person

sometimes someone can be totally right about something and still be an insufferable creep who's safer to stay away from

i'm not smart enough to relate it to anything going on but it's been sticking in my head a whole lot the last couple of months

I wish I'd thought of this sooner, but I just remembered there's something that might be helpful for folks relocating -- like, *sincerely* helpful, not snarky or anything like that. It's a website basically designed to be a hub for links on where you can be found online. Feel free to pass it around.

WhereToFind.Me

A calling card for the internet.

Newsflash: Old man famous for hating superheroes still hates superheroes.

"All these characters have been stolen from their original creators," says man who built an entire franchise out of public domain characters he could exploit freely.

But people are messy, learning and changing takes time, and there isn't a clear series of switches anyone can flip that will fix everything. Most of the people here are doing their best, if you give them the time to do so rather than focus on the immediate gratification that comes with acting/posting in anger.

Take care of yourselves, folks, however you gotta. Just make sure you're not lashing out and hurting other people when you do it.

You won't agree with all of their choices but that doesn't mean their choices are the wrong ones. And the choices you do agree with won't necessarily be the right ones. Mistakes will be made by both mods and users but mistakes can be fixed as long as you're willing to accept people can learn and change.

I don't talk about my age much. But I'm old enough to remember Yiffnet and alt.fan/lifestyle.furry. Inciting incidents and acknowledgement of underlying issues change, but I'm seeing a lot of the same social dynamics playing out now that I saw 20 years ago.

With that in mind, I'm asking folks to consider taking a day or two off and take a breath. This stuff is going to be too big for mods to resolve in a couple of days.

https://twitter.com/buttplugio/status/1314246707404652544 this is not a drill, but you’re gonna need one

someone actually did it. every cage on the internet is locked. eternal september, move over, it’s now eternal locktober

A vague acquaintance of mine on another corner of the net likes to go off on how voting is perpetuating a fucked-up system and the only ethical choice is to just opt-out of elections. (I disagree)

He also argues that Marty is the true villain of Cabin in the Woods for opting out of the ritual and letting the monsters kill everyone rather than sacrifice himself to perpetuate a fucked-up world.

Am I the only one who sees the dissonance here?

So my health insurance provider randomly sent me a cloth mask in the mail, I think the first time I've gotten anything from them acknowledging the pandemic. Apparently it's to make sure I know they're 'there for me' and not at all because we're coming up on the time of year most people look for new insurance plans...

Me: I'm not going to post about all this stuff going on, my opinion doesn't (and probably shouldn't) matter in all this.

Also me: *randomly replies to other folks directly about all this stuff going on*
