Cares too much about random shit.
@Sheril Twitter has started making a business of farming outrage. Rewarding "engagement" encourages trolling and fighting. This ends up being reflected in the user base and how they engage.
@flameReactor if Super Mario "Star Power" energy were a fractal.
You know what’s software engineering? Regaining control over a computer 20 billion kilometers away thanks to the design decisions made 50 years prior. #voyager2

@anneapplebaum "none of the planes routinely carries weapons" but the P8 *can* carry torpedoes and harpoon missiles. We probably won't find out if this one was carrying anything.

Here is one carrying 4 Harpoon missiles. It has a belly compartment that can hold more heavy stuff.

@Mrfunkedude But my meritocracy...

A real fascinating story of how an 81-year-old former Air Force chap had come forward to announce he saw pulsars well before they were discovered but could not talk about it for half a century until the military instruments he observed them with were decommissioned and de-classified.

In a nutshell, he was using radar for a Ballistic Missile early warning system and noticed a pulsating signal showing up in his data, which was rising 4 mins earlier each day. He asked astronomers after writing down the location, and it was the Crab Pulsar!

The woman who discovered pulsars, Dame Prof. Jocelyn Bell Burnell - agreed with his discoveries.

Sent this to our team's slack channel overnight, and my supervisor told me he and another one of our team's astronomers were the folks that the Air Force chap got in touch with!

Small world, and a nice Aussie connection!

@DreadShips Crazy story! Thanks for sharing.

@futurebird You pay for parking when you use the services/stores that pay for that parking.

If you go a grocery store, your dollars spent at that store go to pay the rent for the building. That building's rent goes to pay parking lot upkeep.

I drive into Philadelphia. I have to pay $20+ each time I visit a doctor.

Sometimes the fees are overt, sometimes they're hidden. There are always fees. Someone has to pay for that parking. Used or not.

Hey, an instance for black queer folk that needs a bit of exposure to get the word out about it. Please boost if you have friends who've felt alienated by the nazis you tend to find on other, unmentionable servers. https://blackqueer.life

You guessed it, this server is for Black queer folks to relax, spread out, and be themselves. This is BlackQueerLife.

@arstechnica Claiming someone "may" license something is not the same as having buyers lined up.

Supercruise on Chevrolet is better than Tesla's self driving. I'd prefer licensing that for my 3rd party car.

Or anything using LIDAR, that won't mistake white trucks for open space.
