Remember that history is never far away. It underpins everything that is. Even if it’s hard to find, there are windows to the past everywhere if you pay attention. This one is courtesy of the City of Somerville.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

So in short -- I think it *does* seem to allow some kind of full-text search, if the server has been set up to support it, but the scope is limited in some way that is not clear
I found this: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/optional/elasticsearch/ where it says without further explanation "Mastodon supports full-text search when ElasticSearch is available. Mastodon’s full-text search allows logged in users to find results from their own toots, their favourites, and their mentions. It deliberately does not allow searching for arbitrary strings in the entire database."
Full-text search - Mastodon documentation

Setting up Elasticsearch to search for statuses authored, favourited, or mentioned in.

I'm curious why there is no full-text search on Mastodon (only hashtags and "handles" as I understand it)? Is this a deliberate choice to limit something socially bad? Low-tech bias to make it easier to host?

I've been talking with many friends considering moving to Mastodon, so I tried to writeup my thoughts about why and how to do that! it's not comprehensive, instead like a casual chat, but hope it's helpful!

Cambridge bans right on red. This is a smart move, as it will make the streets much safer for pedestrians and bikers. https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2022/11/08/no-turn-on-red-cambridge/
Right on red? In Cambridge, not anymore.

City councilors voted Monday night to eradicate the practice. Read more on Boston.com.

But you can't fight city hall. Here you see my sunflower cut down to make way for the new pole
I'm officially an old crank. Went to a meeting of the traffic commission to protest the installation of a stop sign
