Some amazing mothing in Suffolk last week, courtesy of a couple of excellent nature reserves. More than 25 species I'd never seen before including these beauties: Pine Hawk-moth, Blackneck, Lempke's Gold Spot and Beautiful China-mark. #TeamMoth #Mothtodon #Moths
Some great mothing in Devon this week, with the insects clearly enjoying the warm days. Highlight was this stunning Eyed Hawk-moth. Yes, we really do have animals like this in the UK! Flip the picture to see the face of a predator... #Moths #Mothtodon #Wildlife #TheJewelBox
Excitement in Camden yesterday, as a sparkling chip of gold in the moth trap turned out to be a lifer - the tortrix Ptycholoma lecheana. Numbers creeping up slowly but still very poor this year. #Moths #Mothtodon #Wildlife #Ecology
My Dad, a very special man. He loved his family, and we loved him. None of us can believe that he's gone.
Some mothy solace in the Camden trap this morning. It's always exciting when I don't recognise something, and that was the case for this moth. It turned out to be Ochreous Pug, a lifer for me. #Moths #TeamMoth #WIldlife #London #TheJewelBox
Back to trapping in London, so from 97:23 on Sunday morning to 4:4 this. One new for the year, though the commonest macro-moth on the terrace: Pale Mottled Willow. #TeamMoth #MothsMatter #Mothtodon #wildlife #London
A fully spring-like 97:23 to the Devon moth trap this morning, and all macros. Highlights were three NFY - Spruce Carpet, V Pug, and Lunar Marbled Brown. Also first photo of Scorched Carpet for 2023. #TeamMoth #Moths #TheJewelBox
The gap between storms here in Devon perfectly bracketed Tuesday night, so out with the trap again. Two more species new for 2023, and two furry beauties at that: Frosted Green and Pale Tussock. #TeamMoth #Devon #Wildlife #Mothtodon
Moths!! A heady 41:14 in the trap in Devon on Tuesday morning. Nothing unusual but 6 NFY included Water Carpet, Early Thorn, Streamer and Great Prominent. #TeamMoth #Moths #Mothtodon #Devon #Wildlife #TheJewelBox
Moth numbers still not really increasing, with just 6:4 in the Camden trap this morning. At least there was one NFY, with this lovely fresh Angle Shades. Flip the photo to get the full face effect. #TeamMoth #Moths #TheJewelBox
