Community is what the birdsite provided until they had to figure out how to pay for it. In my opinion, the advertising-supported business model of the modern web has had tragic consequences for society including radicalization of vast swaths of the population due to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, et. al needing to keep eyeballs on their feeds at all costs. We are the product on that type of site. Fingers crossed we can keep this #fediverse thing going without going down that road. 🤞
