Love getting a new game for Christmas, now the in-laws are away I can be anti-social and have a play!
Seriously impressed with the LED Zelda picture my 9yo made for his friend as a Christmas present, all hand soldered himself. Also loving the seriously retro point to point soldering he's used!
Doing my bit for
#doscember 😁
Oh my gosh, I'm trying to dead bug the smallest chip ive ever got and the gorilla glue I've used to try and stick it down ain't working. Amazingly I have 3 wires joined, just another 9 to go 😵
I mean look at this beauty and only 70p on Mouser, but how the holy F' do I solder wires to 0.2mm pads across a 1.8mm chip!! Meh, only one way to find out :)
Oops, I won a 99p auction for a non-functioning motherboard bits of a TI TravelMate 4000M 486DX2 50MHz laptop! :) Really don't need another project right now, but it had integrated CL video with VGA out, PS/2 mouse Keyboard in, SCSI AND a Jazz16 Soundcard with a Joystick/Midi port!
Loving this Z80 based, eurocard rack, bit of vintage instrumentation were helping a customer with at work. Never worked on a Eurocard form factor before and can see why it's so popular, very neat.
Man I thought getting information on old Computers was hard, but TFT LCD Panels is next level! So much random crap out there and so many missing data sheets. However, after much detective work I figured out how to run the Built In Self Test of this LG Panel that's glitching so I've isolated that it is a problem with the panel and not the main board/power supply.
Finally getting some of my retro machines out on display
I gave desoldering SMD using just my iron, a bent piece of copper wire and a load of flux and Solder and it worked surprisingly well. I don't have pics of the after, but I was impressed. I don't have a hot air station so this is a great solution for me.
