I still get shocked surprise when I tell people that H G Wells wrote War of the Worlds after learning about the genocide inflicted by British colonists on the Aboriginal Tasmanians. It's right there in the foreword of the book.

People do get cancelled and deplatformed for dumb and unfair reasons, and there are elements of the cultural left prone to shutting down, rather than engaging with, reasonable disagreement.

But addressing those problems gets lost in the crying wolf of a cultural right that, motivated by status anxiety, labels as "cancel culture" others' exercise of their freedom of association, and demands to be respected, platformed, and listened to, no matter how ugly and bigoted their proudly stated views.

Been trying to keep an open mind about Post but, yeesh, it has a lot of warning signs right out of the gate, and I don't mean beta bugs. Comments run by OpenWeb? Investment by Marc Andreessen? No way to know who is reposting your content? No way to moderate comments on your posts?

It doesn't seem buggy, it seems structurally unsound in ways that will be hard to fix.
