Truth is, it doesn't matter. Please stop letting gatekeepers tell you that you have to be in IT for years. That is absolutely false. I can literally tell you names of people all day long that got into this field because they studied hard, worked hard, and stayed on course with their mission. I don't care if you are a farmer that is looking to change careers. If you have the ambition, drive, and worth ethic you CAN be successful.
Most importantly you have to work hard. You have to separate yourself from the rest.
Want to go Offense?
Learn the tools. Study what a vulnerability is and what it means. Then study how to remediate it. After that, study how to find more. Learn to be able to communicate with people about what you find. Use your resources. You are never expected to be the smartest person. You don't have to know everything, just know how to use your resources to find the answers. Learn recon tools such as Nmap. Learn an industry standard vulnerability scanner like Nessus. Learn other tools such as Metasploit. Download Metasploitable and practice by hacking it.
Want to go Defense?
Learn what packets are. Learn how things pass through the wire. Learn protocols. Learn how to do threat research. Learn tools such as Wireshark. Learn different SIEMS by downloading product demos and trying them.
Want to be a Security Auditor?
Learn frameworks. NIST and PCI are a great start. No, you don't have to memorize all of the controls, but at least have an understanding of what they mean and know where and how to reference them. Learn to be able to speak the language.
No, I can't promise you that if you learn these things you'll land that dream job. However, I CAN promise you that it will start you down the right path and give you a great base knowledge to build on. Once you start down the path, you will find something that you have a passion for and you'll eat, sleep, and breath it until you know it inside and out.
There is NO blueprint of hard requirements to get into Cyber Security. We don't care how you learned what you know. We just care about what you've learned, whether you are ready to apply it, and that you are still willing to learn.
With that said, if you are a farmer looking to get into this field... don't let anyone stop you. There's nothing wrong with sitting on the tractor in the middle of the field watching an Nmap video while you're taking a break.
