Remember that period when absolutely everyone believed that margarine was healthier than butter after being duped by some lying companies and health charlatans, and then a bunch of people died of heart attacks?

That might turn out to be an apt metaphor for the current #AI craze as our economy spreads generative content on everything it consumes, and all our communication channels are being coated in a sticky layer of artificial gunk.

Jealous of all the people in #Oakland who can just go and buy jars of this absolutely delicious garlic sauce without having to wait for it to be shipped to them. (Their restaurant is two blocks from the 19th st Bart.)

The absolute gall of these people to spend $900,000 for a light show on The Sphere and then claim that they are qualified to use my $3 effectively.

(And by my $3, I mean someone named Barbara's $3, since they think she is getting emails addressed to my account.)

"It costs so much to be a full human being...One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to embrace the world like a lover, and yet demand no easy return of love. One has to accept pain as a condition of existence. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying."

— Morris West, from The Shoes of the Fisherman (1963)

I stumbled across this quote unexpectedly, at the top of the first chapter of North To The Night, Alva Simon's non-fiction account of wintering above the arctic circle in his steel sailboat, Roger Henry.

Morris West is my father.

So...The Guardian newspaper and all its sections and editions (27 million followers) are abandoning the shit-pile formerly known as Twitter.
For fuck's sake #Kamala's campaign staff, it is #election eve, you should be telling people to go vote, not waste their time and resources donating to a campaign that is over. Your actual job is to win, not raise money.

Sending postcards asking people to #vote (ideally not for the fascists) seems like a fantastic idea.

Political campaigns are always asking people to call, text, and knock on doors, but all of those actions are sure to annoy and infuriate almost everyone who is targeted, and this seems much less intrusive.

Well, this succinctly sums up this election in a heartbreaking way.

I have no idea what possessed #Trump to take photos pretending to work at a McDonald's (other than desperation). It seems like half of his allure to voters is that he plays the part of a successful business man who is too smart to actually work for a living, and these images create a diametrically opposed impression. I guess he is stuck cannibalizing his own brand because nothing else is working.

Sorry, but 272 million social security numbers is 80% of the population of the United States leaked in one single breach. Can we please stop fantasizing that #SSNs can be used as a secret password that confirms who we are when applying for credit cards and such?
