@sundogplanets Yes, this is probably some evil plot for a billionaire to become even more rich at everyone's expense, but at the same time, the winter days in Portland are way too short and I would pay a significant amount of money to have a space mirror shoot extra sunlight at my house in January.
@ccohanlon This reads like a chapter from the Tao Te Ching.

Remember that period when absolutely everyone believed that margarine was healthier than butter after being duped by some lying companies and health charlatans, and then a bunch of people died of heart attacks?

That might turn out to be an apt metaphor for the current #AI craze as our economy spreads generative content on everything it consumes, and all our communication channels are being coated in a sticky layer of artificial gunk.

Jealous of all the people in #Oakland who can just go and buy jars of this absolutely delicious garlic sauce without having to wait for it to be shipped to them. (Their restaurant is two blocks from the 19th st Bart.)

@pixelpusher220 @ai6yr Hey if bikeshares can help you outrun the cops, it is worth the money. This seems like great press for the program.

@ccohanlon @OrangeMenace

"Remember that it's the propellor not the hull that induces the tendency to wander."

Thank you for a new metaphor to describe ADHD.

The absolute gall of these people to spend $900,000 for a light show on The Sphere and then claim that they are qualified to use my $3 effectively.

(And by my $3, I mean someone named Barbara's $3, since they think she is getting emails addressed to my account.)

@arisummerland @ai6yr So glad it only seems to be bagged carrots, or I'd be worried about how the dog vomited carrot chunks on us in the middle of the night.

"It costs so much to be a full human being...One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to embrace the world like a lover, and yet demand no easy return of love. One has to accept pain as a condition of existence. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying."

— Morris West, from The Shoes of the Fisherman (1963)

I stumbled across this quote unexpectedly, at the top of the first chapter of North To The Night, Alva Simon's non-fiction account of wintering above the arctic circle in his steel sailboat, Roger Henry.

Morris West is my father.
