Students at Emory University and Georgia Tech are occupying their quads as part of the movement to #StopCopCity!!!
They need our support!! The admin and police are surely thinking about how to end this without generating bad headlines.
Today, there are protests happening across college campuses in Atlanta against Cop City.
Students are rising up and demanding that Atlanta cancels the Cop City lease and all contractors and funders of the project cut ties with the Atlanta Police Foundation. #StopCopCity
Happy birthday Tortugita 💚🐢
“The abolitionist mission isn’t done until every prison is empty. When there are no more cops, when the land has been given back, that’s when it’s over.” —Tortugita
We invite attorneys to join us in person to learn more about the controversial proposal to build "Cop City" in Atlanta, GA and the legal defense of protesters who have been charged with domestic terrorism while exercising their first amendment rights. Join us to learn why Georgia lawyers should care about the Stop Cop City protests, and how they can get involved with the defense. During this briefing, we will provide further background on the Stop Cop City protests, detail the need for a mass defense infrastructure in Atlanta, and introduce some of the logistics and processes associated with representing protesters (e.g. pay structure, pairing process, joint defense agreements, etc). This meeting will be hosted on April 24, 2023 from 6-8pm at the office of Southern Center for Human Rights, at 60 Walton St NW, Atlanta, GA 30303. Dinner will be served. This event is hosted by the Southern Center for Human Rights and the Legal Defense Fund.
