Like Guardian wrote, the Finnish finance minister has a proven history of racist comments. Still, the prime minister seems to believe that those are all bygones, and what matters are ”the political acts performed while on governmential duty”. The government was appointed 3 weeks ago… #online racism #finland #farrightgovernment

Just finished reading a great scifi novel, Krysa by Sami Tissari. In draws a grim image of academic research in the AI era: ”Almost all research was automated in the last couple of years. Krysa had learned to do that too. The AI machine came up with the research topics by itself, studied the literature, planned the research arrangements, implemented them and then wrote the research reports.” :-) #bookstodon #scifi #FinnishLitterature
two assumptions in the speculative world of "The Last of Us" that bother me: 1) society will immediately collapse and turn to ultra-violence in the absence of a top-down capitalist structure telling everyone what to do, but also 2) capitalist products like bullets, fossil fuels, roads, and men standing around with guns are a natural part of the world that can be expected to exist in the absence of capitalism.
Here's a first... I just got an email because ChatGPT suggested an article I wrote to somebody. Could I send them a copy? Except, I never wrote the article, it doesn't exist. PLEASE realize right now that this tool isn't pulling out cool references for you. It's making plausible titles and matching them to authors names.

We come to bury ChatGPT, not to praise it.

”Even the best generative AI tools are only as good as their training, and they are trained with data from today’s messy, inequitable, factually challenged world, so bias and inaccuracy are inevitable. Because their models are black boxes, it is impossible to know how much bad information finds its way into any of them.” #ChatGPT https://www.niemanlab.org/2022/12/generative-ai-brings-wrongness-at-scale/
Generative AI brings wrongness at scale

"For all its promise, generative AI can get more wrong, faster — and with greater apparent certitude and less transparency — than any innovation in recent memory."
