In IKEA yesterday and saw their TRÅDFRI smart things on the shelf which looked quite nice as well as being very reasonably priced. "Only controllable by IKEA Smart lighting products" they say on the box... as well as "Zigbee" 🤔

I can confirm they work perfectly well with Home Assistant equipped with a SONOFF "Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus V2". Smart plugs, bulbs, remote switches and more mostly all for around £7 each. Nice. 😃

(I got/tested GU10 bulbs, remote switch, B22 bulb and a smart plug.)

Apparently earbuds are not supposed to be fixable. Thankfully that's not actually true.

They might have gone through the washing machine... cough. One recovered after a few days, the other didn't. Reconnecting battery helped wake it up, but didn't fully spring back to life until the water was blown out from under the chip and crystal with a hot air rework gun. 😁

A day after I bought my wife a new set. Oh well.

Fixed another Kobo eReader today - Mini with a failed battery, otherwise perfect condition, still boxed. Should be a 344658 but got a 383759 instead which, at 1mm longer, just fits. Two days delivery from eBay rather than two months from Aliexpress. Yay a fully working Kobo. Bought by mistake as I thought it had a backlight but oh well.

That's now five bought, four working, one not worth fixing (broken screen, totally not visible in the listing). Need to stop now!

I guess I could have thrown the GU10 bulbs in the bin, but swapping out blown LEDs was *way* more satisfying 😁

Re-shimming the freewheel bearings on my derailleur. Hate the new indexed ones that wear out so fast (looking at you Shimano) so got some old 1980s ones, but they are a little higher maintenance.

At least they don't start jumping teeth under pressure after 500 miles...

Just finished successfully fixing a friend's Sony Alpha 7RII full frame DSLR camera. Rear buttons failed which meant replacing a very fiddly flex cable buried in the top cover. About 9-10 hours all told, huge strip down and rebuild. I think 'well chuffed' is the correct term.

Argh! Upgraded the most excellent @owntracks to a 2.5.0 prerelease back in April, and discovered today nothing has since been importing into Elasticsearch because they added an "_id" field which is invalid as it's the ES metadata. Why not just "id"? Already having to special-case "_type" as well.

Thankfully ot-recorder has saved all the data so I can post-process. :) Something to watch out for when upgrading.

Not seen USB-C PD modules before - looks like a nice convenient way to get different voltages out of a USB power supply for projects.

USB-C PD Power Trigger Module

USB-C has emerged as considerable improvement from existing USB devices, particularly in the realm of power delivery and device charging. I recently released a video that shows the voltage selecting capabilities of the USB-C Power Trigger Module. USB-C chargers are capable of delivering various voltage outputs - from t
