@fynn And here's a funny one for you: for the past couple years, I've been noticing it's impossible for mpv on my laptop to decode 4K video in real time. But I just tried it in TTY and there it works! No need to juggle the non-default formats :P

@rampagerslife ah great, that's from before laptops got all glued-together
I'd replace the wifi card; I've done that before (with an intel wifi card, don't remember which one exactly) when I had the same issue

@flyfly ok, i'll bring the (allegedly) 5V 2.5A micro-usb supply that I've been using on my rpi 3 for a long time
it is from aliexpress and I can't guarantee it actually reaches its rating; but for me it works
