Finally thank you @severo for helping me clear my voice and nudging me to return to my fedi home :)
I tried to make this so sources, topics and prompts would be easy to adapt to new interests. You can check and fork the whole thing in https://www.val.town/x/joseforonda/digest/code/update . Btw, val town is amazing.

I select a few rss feeds, which it pipes every few hours through an LLM to classify into manually defined topics, those are finally displayed as streams of headlines. You can pick any news item and it fetches it for you in place. For every topic there's also a small frequency plot to know when interest grows or declines.

I hesitate to share much in mastodon because so much of what I build is probably relevant only to people in Bolivia, but this is actually something that would work well beyond. A few months ago I made a val.town project to help me read news.

Why the change.

Every server is its own funny mirror of the fediverse, often lacking large and interesting bits of context. How popular or active is this post in my timeline? Well, if I don't go hunting for it on its original server I may never know. The illusion of this being a common space frequently breaks down. I miss having a common space and the closest I'll get here is by joining the largest tent. So here I am. Hello!

Back on mastodon,

I collected stats from instances.social for almost a year ( https://github.com/mauforonda/mastodon_timeline ) mostly to make cute plots that showed where people were camping in the fediverse ( https://observablehq.com/@mauforonda/what-goes-on-in-mastodon , https://observablehq.com/@mauforonda/whatever-happened-at-mastodon ).

But oh boy it's not fun to always keep an eye for when a server decides to inflate its stats. Actually, some of the last spikes in fediverse user growth had nothing to do with muskification, but stuff like Firefish bad releases ( https://git.joinfirefish.org/firefish/firefish/-/issues/10759 )

While my mind is on the internet, my feet lie in Bolivia which is an interesting topic if only because most content and analysis on it are so poor. Over the years I've built many little projects where I try to illuminate my way around this mess through data I find in unusual places.

I just switched servers and now need a post that makes this profile look a little more colorful.

So, last year I tried to cure my twitter hangover by building little mastodon-themed projects. Some are visualizations https://observablehq.com/collection/@mauforonda/mastobooks . Some are github-action-powered trinkets that build little feeds or stats about the fediverse https://github.com/mauforonda?tab=repositories&q=%23mastodon .
