Hello, I need Mastodon server setup help! It’s time I got off the mastodon.social instance. If I want to set up just a Mastodon server for my own dang self at, like, mastodon.matthewmcvickar.com, what’s the easiest way to do that? A DigitalOcean droplet?

@casey I think they got rid of some of it, but they’re still M4A files that won’t play unless you authorize your computer and will lose all their plays and metadata if you have to rebuild your library or something. 🙄

(Oh, and JunoDownload sometimes has stuff but it’s generally more expensive and region-locked than other sites.)

@casey My typical search for digital music goes: Bandcamp > Bleep > Boomkat > artist’s webstore > Beatport > Amazon. (I don’t use iTMS because it’s still using DRM and the files can disappear or lose metadata unexpectedly.)
