In a way, AI isn't new. It's just advanced computational statistics, which (as @emilymbender and @alex point out in "The AI Con") has powered everyday things like spellcheck for decades.

What's new is that the current AI tools want us to abdicate, to give up our senses and minds, in favor of what the platforms tell us to think - to do - to feel.

The compulsion to give up our humanity is what we should be resisting (along with the environmental effects and all the other harms).

i'm glad people are finally talking about this. I did like 17 years in the restaurant industry before moving to the farm and saw it way back then; watching the sysco, us foods, shamrock trucks, and variety of smaller independent and regional distributors, become just the sysco trucks working their way up the alley from your competitors' rear doors to yours.
I did time in a wide variety of restaurants from turn 'n burn family digs, to $300 per plate, hours long, fine dining experiences in boutique eateries, and all the food came from the same damn truck.
