Nothing about a DC necessarily involves chemical emission, or even water consumption. Manufacturing footprint?
@TheZorse I'd first distinguish between sleep (a bios-assisted low-power state) and hibernation (storing state to the swap partition).
I'd also scrutinize the machine's bios settings. ACPI, APM, stuff like that.
