A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred 75 km north of French Pass, New Zealand on Fri Aug 11 2023 11:53 AM. The quake was 170 kilometres deep and the shaking was light close to the quake.
The quake may have been felt in Blenheim, Cambridge, Castlepoint, Cheviot, Collingwood, Culverden, Dannevirke, Eketahuna, Feilding, French Pass, Hamilton, Hanmer Springs, Hastings, Hawera, Hunterville, Kaikoura, Karamea, Kawhia, Levin, Martinborough, Masterton, Mokau, Motueka, Murchison, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Ohakune, Opunake, Palmerston North, Paraparaumu, Picton, Pongaroa, Porangahau, Reefton, Seddon, St Arnaud, Stratford, Taihape, Taumarunui, Taupo, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, Tokoroa, Turangi, Waipukurau, Waverley, Wellington, Westport, Whanganui, and surrounding localities.
