@schwa @alexr Was watching a YT video on Japan stuff and found out you can simply go into wallet, press +, select transit card, Japan, Suica, and boom. Done. You need to add 1000 yen minimum but no need for app and this can be done outside of Japan. TIL

@alexr @schwa what is weird is I am pretty sure I had this suica card setup in Canada before I left 7 years ago. Now I can download the app but they geo-block you when you try to finish the setup. I don’t quite see the point… hopefully I can figure this out on the N’EX

@schwa oh and you can’t load a suica card on your phone outside of Japan for some reason. But I plan to do that on arrival.

@schwa Again thank you so much for all your tips! I’ll be adding Hakone to the trip and will definitely try that Katsu place! Will also extend the Biwa visit so we’re not too rushed I think. Man there is so much to see and do. Hard to choose where to spend time. Your insights helped me a lot with the decisions. Cheers!

@schwa Still “In Progress” plans.

NOTE: We used to backpack from hotel to hotel but nowadays my wife prefers we have a “home base” and stick somewhere 2+ nights when possible. That said, if you think we'll get bored anywhere, do let me know.

If you think I’m way off anywhere and/or have more suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Hey @schwa , me again calling for your Japan insights (if I may). I plan to visit Hikone and Chikubu Island on a day trip from Kyoto. Do you suggest actually spending more time there? Also, any other region around Lake Biwa that you suggest? I’m also planning to spend 1 night at Himeji before going to Hiroshima, is it worth more time in your opinion? Do you think 3 nights in Hiroshima is reasonable? I’ve heard good and bad (too touristy) things on Hakone, any opinion?
