Crucify the ego, before it's far too late
And leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.

Jon had. He had seen them before, but not like this, not drawn up in battle array. On the march the wildling column had sprawled over long leagues like some enormous worm, but you never saw all of it at once. But now . . .
It looked like a dragon?

The Terror had gone off the rails by the time Robespierre declared Deism the state religion and introduced a 10 day week so Christians wouldn't know which day was Sunday.
I can agree with Thomas Paine's take, the extremes of the revolution reflected the extremes of the aristocracy it overthrew, but that didn't stop Paine from almost being executed under the before the guillotine was turned on Robespierre.
Arguably, Napoleon is not the person I would choose the deliver this critique.
"I spend 30,000 lives a month." And yet the conclusion by the brilliant general, student and history, philosophy and a general polyglot is to mourn the loss of his own generation, which he himself played the largest part in scourging.
People are fascinating.
"There is never a revolution without a terror. Revolutions are the true cause of regeneration in public customs, but in general a revolution is one of the greatest evils by which mankind can be visited. It is the scourge of the generation by which it is brought about, and all the advantages it procures cannot make amends for the misery with which it embitters the lives of those who take part."

I love the greyness here, and the hypocrisy coming from a man who boasted -"
@szegfu_ Feast is great, but I had the privilege of reading it just as Dance was coming out. For people waiting years to find out what happened to their favorite characters only to get a book that was about new and side characters, then waiting more years for Dance, I get that it was frustrating.
It's much better on a reread after reading Dance. George gave us the book we needed instead of the book we expected. (Brienne's Feast arc is a masterpiece, Nimble Dick is just pure bonus.)
I love that we're invited to think of Cersei as paranoid for imagining Tyrion skulking in the walls, crossbow at ready, poised to strike when you least expect it, then...
We find out that Varys has been skulking in the walls, crossbow at ready, poised to strike when you least expect it. #asoiaf
