@Manigarm right on. Pre-Welch, GE put shareholder returns lower in their priority list than corporate citizenship (what a thought!) and taking care of their employees. Welch made high profits the new priority and the rest of the big companies followed suit.

The US has at least 34 bitcoin mining operations. They consume more than 3,900 megawatts of electricity. That is nearly the same amount of electricity as 3 million households. In Texas, where 10 of the 34 mines are connected to the state’s grid, it's estimated the increased demand has caused electric bills for power customers to rise nearly 5 percent.
