I study carbon constrained electricity and transportation systems at Stanford University. I also enjoy books, lifting, clothes, cats, and music.

- Adding storage to solar is closest to a win-win solution for residential DER
- Two part retail rates with a time-of-use volumetric (per kWh) and fixed component (per customer/ per KW) preserves most bill savings of NEM tiered block rates

How do people think net metering is supposed to work in conditions like this?

Even NRDC was all in on reforming CA net metering.

If you want more subsidized rooftop solar, …

Takes almost 30 million to make a mile of interstate; 1-3 million for a mile of separated bike path; BART extension to San Jose $1 billion a mile. Maybe it’s obvious to people but that’s astounding costs to build pretty basic infrastructure.

Did you know that technology learning does not always improve cost optimization #energy models? 🤔 Here are some thought-provoking insights from extensive hindcasting in Europe. @Xin_WEN__ @ElsevierEnergy @MacroEnergySys @IAMConsortium @UNIGEenergy

Our first sodium-ion battery will power the Chery EV models. The award-winning technology breaks the bottleneck of limited raw materials and provides a cost-effective solution.
Contrary to the ambition in regulating air pollution, GHG standards are still attribute based though with tightening curves. If we’re serious about GHG emissions, footprint based + different standards for trucks should be removed.
New EPA GHG and emissions standards proposed rules dropped.
- cold temperature test (-7C)
- light and medium duty vehicles to have PM standard of 0.5mg/mile. for context 2025 vehicles have to abide by 3mg/mile; current overall fleet average is 17mg/mile (NEI 2017).

Carbon dioxide removal is not a current climate solution.

"Drastically reduce emissions first, or carbon dioxide removal will be next to useless."

What David Ho writes at Nature resonates with the recent IPCC Report @_david_ho_ @Nature @IPCC_CH
