Just an explorer of the realms of consciousness, careening though the universe on a grand adventure. I enjoy thoughtful discussions, heartfelt encounters, and coffee by the gallon.

Good thoughts, good words, good deeds. 🕊️

The wide-open vistas that sustain our souls, the depth of silence that pushes us toward sanity, return us to a kind of equilibrium. We stand steady on Earth. The external space I see is the internal space I feel.

~ Terry Tempest Williams

I had an epiphany when pondering upon the principle of non-self in Buddhism: as soon as we think about it from an ecological perspective, it makes every sense. Every organism lives in a complex web of interaction with innumerable others from the same and different species, that it's impossible to say any "single organism exists" except as it exists within the ecosystem. The concept of non-changing and dominant self just doesn't fit here.

We must try to remain human in this darkness: this is our battle.
It's good to be loved by family and friends wherever they roam.
Here we are, it seems, at the end of all things. #TolkienForever
I truly believe contentment in simplicity is its own reward. As #Tolkien said: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” 🕊️

Whatever arises interdependently
is explained as emptiness.
It is dependently designated;
it is the path of the Middle Way.

Apart from what arises interdependently,
there are no existent phenomena.
Therefore apart from emptiness
there are no existent phenomena.
~Nāgārjuna

A bully believes that kindness is weakness. A fool believes that bullying is strength. A true warrior knows that a bully is weak, and that compassion and kindness are strengths they could never comprehend.
“The virtues of men are of more consequence to society than their abilities ; and for this reason, the heart should be cultivated with more assiduity than the head.” ~ Noah Webster

Spiritual burn out is real.
It is part of the cycles of passion and devotion. It can be managed, it can be worked through, but it eventually does find us. A lot of people refer to these times of disconnection as Fallow times.
Fallow is when a piece of land is dug as if to prepare it for planting for the season but is then left. It is prepared but not sown, allowing it to rest and recover from previous planting and harvesting seasons.
I think that is an apt way to think of spirituality. We plant the seeds and they grow, we harvest all manner of good things from them. Joy, devotion, wisdom, insight, and more. We create wondrous things from the crop. Inspiration, motivation, beauty, etc. But what we forget is that in order to grow those crops must draw out nutrients from their soil, taking it away from other places to provide for all the good things we are wanting. Which means that once those resources are dried up we need to rest and recover them. Periods of rest are a natural part of the cycle. Take that time, rest, recover, and plant once more when you are ready.
