Enterprises buy in to Supergraph and Dataverse thinking they are solutions for a problem that is actually solved by starting with foundational ontology and RDF. The Emperor's new clothes are just more silos covered in a blanket with a graph-like pattern.
Funny voice command issue: my daughter wants to hear "Please don't stop the music" by Rihanna. If I say, "Play please don't stop the music" nothing happens. I have to say, "play please don't the music by Rihanna" or it will just..not stop the music.
Has anyone else had this happen: You investigate, introduce, and promote some web standard at work, and then years later (in my case 4-6 years) someone else has an "idea" about something that is trying to solve the exact same thing, but they don't even mention the standard? Bonus points if you can guess which ones it was in my case.
There are so many interesting web standards on the horizon that small businesses and non-profit organizations will benefit from it is an exciting time for the web.
Two of the kids (7 and 9) got Camp Snap (https://www.campsnapphoto.com/) cameras as presents (I am a fan because it is digital with no screen, so they don't know how good the photos are until they "develop" them). Installed Immich (https://immich.app/), and now they have their own little Google Photo-like experience all from the comfort of home. It has been fun to watch and enable.

New year, new web performance mystery (and it's a huge one):

The Curious Case of the Shallow Session SPAs

Buried at the end of this year's instalment of my semi-annual series on network and device reality is a mystery: multiple, independent data sets from the Web Performance community indicate sites built as Single-Page Applications ("SPAs") receive, on average, only one (1) "soft navigation" for every

Boosting for exposure. If you have any historical insights into early HTML syntax, please check this entire thread out.

Nominated our CTO for an internal point reward under the "Transparency" heading. I didn't feel that a question during an internal AMA was answered fully. Shared the email I sent him in the AMA Slack channel. He took the time to call me and discuss it further, and shared, from the heart, the difficult task that so many corporate leaders have of balancing the desire to be transparent while facing the dangers of information leaks and the vocal court of critical, internal opinion. #lifeatredhat
I'm trying hard to let AI do some application development grunt work, but it still keeps finding new ways to NOT do exactly what I want it to. "Create two separate frontend implementations: Deno Flash, and one with plain HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. Favor using web components in both." --> Two empty directories named "fresh" and "vanilla".
