Gov. Cooper - who, ironically, was in DC lobbying for hurricane relief funds at the time that this happened - will surely veto the bill. Then its future will depend on several Republicans from the western part of the state who initially voted against it, and whether they join their counterparts in overriding the veto.

Here are their names and phone numbers:

Rep. Karl Gillespie (R-Macon) - 919-733-5859

Rep. Mike Clampitt (R-Swain) - 828-736-6222

Rep. Mark Pless (R-Haywood) - 919-733-5732

The bill would also limit the governor's ability to appoint judges, restrict the Democratic attorney general's ability to take action without the consent of the Republican-led NCGA, bar the AG from participating in any argument that would invalidate a law passed by the NCGA, make it harder for people to vote absentee and have their ballots counted.

They are doing this as they lose their veto-proof majority in the state legislature, to ensure they hold on to power regardless.

NC Republicans have stealthily added a legislative power grab to a paltry hurricane relief bill. They are using the cover of hurricane relief for western NC to shift power over the state board of elections from our Democratic governor to our newly-elected Republican auditor.

Is anyone local interested in a Casio PX-770 keyboard? I'm not able to play anymore because of wrist/hand issues and I'd love to free up some space. It's a really nice keyboard if your hands work! Barely used, looking to sell for $500. Here's the product page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074FTTTMZ

So happy that it's finally gardening weather again. This past weekend I planted buttonbush along one side of my house and replaced a non-native azalea with a sweet pepperbush. Then, as a treat, I bought a camellia japonica 'april remembered' to fill out a big gap by our front door. I can't wait to see how it all looks.

Anybody else planting anything fun right now?

I loved season 1 of #TheWheelofTime, but season 2 is already even better. I'm so, so happy. 12-year-old me could never have imagined one day getting to see this story on screen. 🥲
Time to listen to the Wheel of Time soundtrack on repeat for the next three days. Can't believe season 2 is almost here! 💃
Found while looking for the WiFi password at my parents’ house — my first ever technical writing project, circa ~1999. Figuring out how to explain copying and pasting to my parents made me the writer I am today. 😂

Learning the mountain dulcimer after a lifetime of playing classical piano is interesting. My brain REALLY wants to play it like a keyboard -- percussively, stretching all my fingers across the frets instead of sliding the first three -- and overwriting those patterns is not coming easy.
