Yet another software hacker accidentally specialized in developer tooling (compilers & runtimes).

My #running 2025 recap: slightly more than 2800K in total (as I plan to run a few more Ks before Wed πŸ˜…) averaging 55.9K per week.

First year without a running injury πŸŽ‰ Also first year where I followed a structured plan 😎 (5 runs a week, 3 easy, 1 speed and 1 long) instead of doing whatever I feel like. I flirted with overtraining twice πŸ”₯ but learned a lot about my body in the process. I think 2026 will be a much better year training-wise. Still so much to learn though...

Happy new year β™₯️

I'm a fan of the Concept 2 rowing machine which I use to supplement (2-3x per week) my running, and earlier in the year I bought their indoor bike and I think I love it more?

I think both ergs complement each other very well: the bike is perfect for long (~2h) pieces at a steady HR, while the row erg is awesome for shorter but tougher pieces (my favorites after a good warmup: 30 min at a "tempo" effort, 10x750m intervals, or a 5K all in (this one is hard, I usually puke a bit at the end)).

The course (33K with 700m of combined elevation) was viciously designed to make people suffer, both physically and mentally. When I crossed the finish line I swear I would never run again. There was almost no flat surface to run on, always ups or downs. Sometimes I would see some flat road from a distance hoping for a relief and the staff would redirect us into yet another hill.

This said, a few days passed now and I think I will try again next year. #running

A photo of me #running that's not too bad, from last Sunday's race (OK this was only at km 8) πŸ˜…οΈ

After what I thought was a flawless training block I entered a 3-week taper severely overtrained, and I paid the price on race day. Had to run at a slower pace and deal with a nasty higher back pain (that started at a 3/10 scale but went to 7-8 mid-race). But I still managed to finish it somehow and I'm quite happy about it.

The rabbit that was visiting us earlier in the year then disappeared for months is back (I _think_ it’s the same rabbit).
Browsing the NYC marathon website today feels like going to the butcher.

I'm a bit scared about this race. Not about the distance per say (did a marathon earlier in the year) but more about the elevation profile (see attached pic).

One of my neighbors (a fairly good runner, 3h at the marathon) told me it's a very difficult course and that I will likely "shit myself on" (a French expression that might not translate well here, but you get the idea) πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«οΈ

At this stage my confidence is higher than when I started training, I think (80% sure) it's gonna be OK.

Last long run of my custom training plan! Stopped the watch after 3 hours. Conditions not ideal (fried legs + very tired + low energy == 😡) but I got it done. Glad it’s over πŸŽ‰

Now 3 weeks of taper before β€œLes 4 cimes” (a local race of 33K with 700m of elevation 😱). My only goal is to finish it in one piece πŸ˜…

Today on slack
Lately I have been helping with a new project at work, I was tasked to do the WebAssembly bits of it due to past experience and it reminded me of this scene from the Godfather 3.
