Watch: Compost Collective featured on Gardening Australia

Costa's worm farms and compost bins are breaking down loads of household kitchen waste from the street, as well as shredded paper, allowing it to be returned to the garden as a ripper fertiliser. It’s a very effective use of a challenging, narrow space, and sees organic matter diverted from landfill, and turned into top notch compost. Costa uses this compost in his verge veggie garden.

The LOCCAL Loop newsletter: March, 2026

# ClimateChange #BenefitsOfComposting #Bushfires #YIMBY #CommunityResilience #What'sOn #CommunityComposting The end of summer is upon us, although you would hardly know it from the temperatures! This summer saw records tumble across Australia, with the CSIRO reporting that January brought the hottest temperatures ever recorded in numerous areas - some exceeding 49°C. Image courtesy of ABC 27/1/26 Tragically, extreme heat also fuelled devastating bushfires across Victoria.

Compost for a cause

Our friends at YIMBY have been doing what they can to help support people impacted by the horrific bushfires that have raged through Victoria this summer. This article is reprinted with permission. What a start to the year it has been! Floods, fires and a local township severely impacted, with buildings, business, homes, gardens and bushland burned. YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard) sends love to everyone who has been impacted and thanks to everyone who has helped out so far.
