Perfect example of one of the dozen or so reasons why Mastodon is doomed to relative obscurity and Bluesky is going to thrive: petulant nannyism:

Apparently someone is threatening to have the instance I’m on defederated if they don’t get rid of me, because I posted that the Mastodon DM system is dangerously broken and non-intuitive. So, if either of those things happen, it was nice knowing you all. (Well, some of you all, anyway.)

I’m devastated to learn that @Prof_BearB passed away. He was a great mentor and always gracious to junior scholars in IR. What a heartbreaking loss for his family, for Ohio State, and for those in IR.

“Our dear colleague, Bear Braumoeller, passed away this morning in Oslo after a sudden, brief illness. Words cannot express our feelings of profound sadness. As we know more, we will post plans for events in his memory.”

I have a student this semester who has turned in every single writing assignment (i.e., all the graded assignments) without a single paragraph break.

I'm sitting on a 12 page critical book review that is one long paragraph. #academe #polisci

My wife tells me our local Costco is making sheet cakes again. The pandemic is OFFICIALLY over.
Kid2’s boyfriend — a very nice young man - recognized the computer game I was playing (a ludicrously overcomplicated strategy game called Europa Universalis IV) and we had a brief conversation about it and I could see her dying a little inside.
I commented on a Twitter post re Ancient Greek—and it reminded me how the undergrad adviser got me to double major with political science, instead just minoring, in Classics. Thread is up on Typefully. https://typefully.com/lukemperez/KyeCGTv

I think I’ll be moving to sciences.social soon. I got this account before the Elon-Twitter exodus when many of my colleagues were still on Twitter (where I am still active for professional reasons).

But now that many academics are there, it’s easier to search trending topics if I’m on their instance. When I do, I think the handful of folks following me here will have to re-follow me.

My hotel for #mpsa2023 didn’t have hot water. 🤷🏽‍♂️
