I just wrote this blog post about some of the best demoscene prods of 2025: https://laurent.le-brun.eu/blog/the-best-demos-of-2025-from-the-demoscene

It's a partial, subjective selection aimed at the people who haven't looked at the Meteoriks nominations yet.

In the last few days, I built a shoot ’em up game by embedding a tiny custom bytecode VM and rendering the graphics using a fullscreen pixel shader. The result is a 3kB Windows executable.

What would it look like if you were to design a video game, whose target audience are language learners? As I view it, it's the opposite of gamification in learning apps, it's about making an actual game and making sure it's accessible to a wider, multilingual audience.

I'm sharing my thoughts in a blog post, with a plan of actually doing it. I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

@llb 2023 was my first revision as a partygoer. I remember your intro "the sheep and the flower" perfectly, so much storytelling, the crowd reactions, we really lived an adventure back then.

The very moment I saw "the sheep is back" on the screen, I knew it was you. It brought me instant joy, and I could see people around me smilling too. You created something that will stay in our heart. Loved it!!!!

I just uploaded a video capture of Summoning, our new Linux intro, made with @jon, released at #revision2025

You can check it on youtube https://youtu.be/4ZU8aZ17ss0
Or even better run it on Linux (with glibc) either using the SDL or X11+PulseAudio https://demozoo.org/productions/371363/

The Sheep and the Biker - Ctrl-Alt-Test

The Sheep and the Biker is a demo in 8kB. What you see and hear fits within a single 8kB Windows executable binary, using procedural generation and compression. This production is a follow up to The Sheep and the Flower. It was released in April 2025, and ranked 2nd out 10 entries at Revision, the […]

A practical introduction to the Starlark language, by @llb

> Have you ever needed a simple, thread-safe scripting language for your application—one that looks like Python but is safe and easy to embed? I’d suggest Starlark.

> Starlark is a simple, thread-safe language with Python-like syntax, designed to be embedded in a host application.

I have published a new 8kB intro (for PC, Windows) this weekend. The feedback has been very good so far. You'll find the download link, YouTube link and source code here: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=98212

Enjoy the night ride! Fully procedural content, all the graphics are done in a single shader.
