Processing my experiences of discrimination as a grown up chronically ill parent and care person to disabled kids and kids in general in Germany.

Fight fascists.

This is a more public facing, activist private account but I usually can’t interact over more than minor issues.

Favs and answers are welcome. My public toots may be boosted.

If you rather trust a private person than a custodianship court alone: Consider adult adoption.

It’s a completely new topic to me. I learnt that today from a terminally sick, very courageous last living parent to a disabled child and feel it’s crucial information.

If you want to help: Consider becoming a volunteer custodian or even adopt a disabled person under custodianship. Might even be an option when marriage is none for disabled partners? 🤔

Could someone find out which of the OSZ for the Berlin „11. Pflicht(Berufs)schuljahr“ are actually wheelchair accessible? (In a committee I was told none and the accessibility rating on https://www.bildung.berlin.de/schulverzeichnis/ is often wrong. And there is official, legally binding wheelchair accessibility versus physical accessibility, too) #Behinderung #NoAccessNoPeace

Not good with words today. People, including kids, must be allowed to be a blank page towards anyone and anything regarding such personal information if they choose to.

[edit: Sorry for the repost. I realized this toot wasn’t public as I wanted it to be.]

Maybe it’s something people who didn’t grow up chronically ill etc. don’t think about but I for example became aware at some point in my school time that there’s no use thinking about certain professional paths like anything “verbeamtet” (state services) since my diagnoses already exclude me from that. Not the conditions itself, but the diagnoses: That’s it documented somewhere.

Maybe I didn’t get one important point across clearly enough: Including when my blind kid is rolling into able bodied people who don’t get out of kid’s way.

(I think one occasion that left a huge imprint on me was on the second Berlin Disability and Mad Pride when my (blind) then kid was rolling around and because there were lots of people the kid rolled into a lot of people. I was trying to contain it and excusing my child but an older person in a wheelchair told me to let it go, that it’s a good attitude for my child to be moving around exploring and having fun and I shouldn’t hinder and contain them.)

“Teachers at segregated schools have a better qualification.” Not sure about official Berlin regulations except that the Personalzumessung I referred to talks about the same special ed teachers for segregated and non-segregated schools. (Usually it’s actually the more qualified teachers for non-segregation because they represent the special ed school to external.)

But the Berlin blind special school said they take anyone who will make the job.
