Public transit funding is in urgent trouble as California state leaders hammer out the state budget.
Your representatives and key budget leaders need to hear from you NOW! Now there is a tool to make those calls quick and easy. It takes just a few minutes.
(Call NOW if you're available, if not schedule a time to do it tomorrow during business hours.)
From the @sfexaminer:
"Mayor Daniel Lurie's sweeping reform effort to speed up San Francisco’s notoriously unwieldy permitting process has now yielded its first concrete legislative proposal.
The recently introduced measure from Supervisor Joel Engardio is intended to make it easier for homeowners to repair or replace aging structures in their backyards, including stairs, decks, balconies or even home additions like bay windows or solariums.
“We want people to spend less time at the Planning Department and more time just enjoying their lives at their home,” Engardio said."
Mayor Lurie said that Engardio’s proposed reforms “are common sense changes that will make basic home projects more cost-effective, transparent, and efficient for residents across the city."
We're increasingly hearing that paid signature gatherers for the Recall Engardio campaign are telling voters that the recall would help re-open the Great Highway.
This is a lie.
To be very clear: the recall would remove Supervisor Engardio from office. That’s all. It doesn’t reverse Prop K or re-open the Great Highway.
If you’ve signed the recall petition, know you have the right to remove your name. You just need to share your name and address where you’re registered to vote, and a photo of your signature (.jpeg/.jpg) so the Dept of Elections can confirm your request. It only takes a minute, but you need to do it before the Dept of Elections receives the petition, so do it NOW: qrco.de/withdraw
(And if you've been lied to, let us know at [email protected].)
We can all use some good news, and "S.F. overdose deaths hit ‘remarkable’ new low" is definitely that. ❤
This is a great thing for our city to be making progress on this heartbreaking public health crisis and while I'm disappointed that Mayor London Breed will not get the credit she deserves for creating the conditions for this change, of course we want to see Mayor-Elect Daniel Lurie succeed in continuing to build on this, for the benefit of our city.

"Muni is as popular as ever. But an effort to boost its funding to prevent service cuts could fail if a simultaneous move to reform San Francisco’s business taxes proves to be even more popular.
That’s because of a provision buried deep within the text of Proposition M, the business-tax reform measure on the November ballot. That provision essentially declares that it and Proposition L, which would increase taxes on Waymo, Lyft and Uber to fund Muni, are in conflict.
Thanks to that provision — Section 14 of 16, found on page 109 of the 110-page measure — Prop. L can win a majority and still lose if Prop. M attracts more votes."
Uber has put over $760K into fighting Prop L. We don’t need to match this money to win, because our strong volunteer ground game is how we’ll win, but we do need money to pay for the lit, window signs, and other supplies that we need to knock on doors and reach people by mail. In the next few days, we’re finalizing our direct mail budget, and to reach all the persuadable voters that we need to reach, we need about another $60K.

We collected over 17,000 signatures to get on the ballot as Prop L. Our Yes on L campaign to Fund the Bus has earned endorsements from four out of our city’s top five mayoral candidates, including Mayor London Breed; ten out of eleven city supervisors; Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Senator Scott Wiener, the SF Democratic Party, the SF Chronicle, SF Council of District Merchants, SF Labor Council, Sierra Club, SPUR, SF YIMBY, SF League of Pissed Off Voters, and more.
We’ve been working incredibly hard and I’m so proud. We’re running a strong ground game to knock on doors to let voters know about our measure, because people really support it once they hear about it.
This election season, I’m working together with Chris Arvin, Cyrus Hall, Kat Siegal, and over two hundred other transit advocates, organizers, and volunteers to bring a ballot measure to San Franciscans this November, to create a new revenue source for Muni.
Prop L will bring enough funds to save over 10 Muni bus lines from being cut. The money can be used on Muni bus, train, and Paratransit service; and Free Muni for Youth and fare equity programs for seniors and people with disabilities or low incomes. The money comes from bringing San Francisco's ride-hail business tax rate closer to that of other big cities. It’s part of a package of solutions that we desperately need and will make a real difference in people’s lives, as severe service cuts come to this vital public service.
