Looking for fellow aspiring polyglots and language lovers. If you have a language blog, or track your learning progress somehow, please reach out :).

I like reading, nature, and using my brain. I don't like AI, big tech, and Duolingo.

I created a small language app called Frazely, and thatโ€™s what I mostly use for my own learning. Currently focusing on Arabic and Portuguese.

Currently learningPersian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Arabic

I wanted to do the right thing. My #language learning app does NOT use AI (because its error-prone, but also because of all its negative impact on the society and the #climate ). I pay human teachers and voice actors for their work.

I have asked my users for feedback, because I'd like to keep improving the app for them. Got two answers suggesting I use AI to add more languages...

This just makes me so sad.

@luxifera good one!
@tsyum I totally agree. I love CI and it's helped me learn many languages, but for some languages, the more difficult ones, it's simply not enough. Unfortunately I struggled to find a book or class that would incorporate both - CI and some structure/grammar to help my brain process it, so I ended up making my own app that incorporates both. Maybe you could check out Pimsleur, they do something similar. (Thought it's gotten very expensive I must warn you).
@DecksDark Good question. I don't think you're missing anything... I think IPA is just not a perfect system. I've never really managed to incorporate it into my learning. I always prefer audio + when possible asking natives to correct my pronunciation, because my brain just refuses to hear some sound differences.
@MikeyU hi! Sorry for the self-promotion, but maybe my app (Frazely) could be something of interest to you for Spanish and Polish. It's similar to LingQ, but the stories and courses are already provided - and they are written and recorded by humans, and not AI. I'd love to hear your feedback :)
Re LingQ - a very good app, but imo too expensive for what it is. I guess for Spanish there are a lot of community materials already in the app, but for smaller languages you have to find them yourself.
@green Hi! I created a language app that is quite privacy-friendly (I'm a cyber-sec fan myself). You can sign up with a throw-away email, I don't use google analytics (I use Umami, cookie free), I don't store any personal data, and don't share anything with other users (no leaderboards, etc.). Unfortunately the payment system (Stripe and in-app) doesn't allow for 100% anonymity. I wonder if that could be sth of interest for you, and whether you'd have suggestions on how to improve it further :)
Language plateaus are killing all my progress over and over again ๐Ÿ˜” just took a look at my #Persian reviews and I forgot absolutely everything ๐Ÿ˜“ Those of you who manage to stay consistent, how do you do it??
@hywan yes it is! :)
@hywan hi Ivan, sorry for auto promotion but you might be interested in checking out my app. Itโ€™s called Frazely and itโ€™s the opposite of Duolingo. It has no AI stuff, lessons that make sense, and smart reviews. Plus you can choose what and when to learn. And if you end up giving it a try, feedback is more than welcome. I put a lot of heart into it and Iโ€™m constantly working on improving. Thank you :)
@ley__de__murphy hi yes itโ€™s for iOS, web and Android, so basically any device :) Just search for Frazely
