A team from the University of Zurich manipulated people on a subreddit for months with their AI bots to see "if they could change people's minds". Their bots pretended to be victims of sexual assault, pretended to be black people against the Black lives matter movement etc. massively maipulative shit. And they did not inform anyone. Nobody on that subreddit consented to being experimented on.

Their excuse "psychological manipulation of OPs on this sub is justified because the lack of existing field experiments constitutes an unacceptable gap in the body of knowledge".

When I say that I don't believe that academia is a huge help in us curbing the negative effects #AI will have, this is what I mean. The thing went through ethics boards and shit. Disgusting.

A new study estimates that the world’s biggest corporations have caused $28 trillion in climate damage, which is a shade less than the sum of all goods and services produced in the United States last year. A Dartmouth College research team came up with the estimated pollution caused by 111 companies, with more than half of the total dollar figure coming from 10 fossil fuel providers: Saudi Aramco, Gazprom, Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, National Iranian Oil Co., Pemex, Coal India and the British Coal Corporation. The study is part of an effort to make it easier for people and governments to hold major polluters financially accountable, like the tobacco giants were. The study was published in Wednesday's edition of Nature.

Gestern funktionierte die WLAN Karte im PC noch, heute weigert sie sich zu starten. `lscpi -k` findet sie und `dmesg` zeigt auch ein paar obskure Fehlermeldungen zum Treiber (ath12k_pci), für die ich jetzt nach einer Stunde suchen keine Lösung gefunden habe. Keine Ahnung was da passiert ist. Dachte erst an eine Regression in firmware oder kernel, also mit snapper snapshots versucht, einen funktionierenden Status zu erreichen, aber das hat auch nix geändert.

Schnauze voll. Kabel baumelt wieder.
